Analysis of AIEEE – 2009
October 13, 2009This year (2009) the students had a quite easy AIEEE question paper. The CBSE retained the format of AIEEE to a single paper test. The number of questions for AIEEE 2009 was reduced per section to 30 from 35 last year. This made AIEEE paper of 90 questions to be attempted in three hours.
However, the AIEEE marking scheme was changed this year. Each section of the AIEEE paper was of 144 marks, which meant a total of 432 marks.
Out of 30 questions in each section, 24 questions carried 4 marks with negative marks and 6 questions of 8 marks with negative marking, which made the AIEEE preparation challenging for the students.
All the three AIEEE question papers could be termed moderate in level of difficulty.
There were a few firsts for AIEEE 2009, however. In AIEEE Mathematics and Physics “Assertion — Reasoning” type questions (introduced in the JEE a couple of years ago) made an appearance in AIEEE for the first time. In addition, AIEEE Physics also saw grouped questions, which were based on a given paragraph.
The significant time pressure that one witnessed in completing AIEEE question paper in past years has been dramatically reduced. Nevertheless, the strategy to ace this test depended on keeping one’s cool and identifying the simpler questions to attempt first before moving to the more difficult questions, which weren’t many. This also requires a perfect AIEEE coaching and a dedicated AIEEE preparation.
In AIEEE, better utilization of time would result in better marks. So, the constraining factor in AIEEE was once again time, and not level of difficulty.
